Coronavirus

Coronavirus and canicross

Club information about Coronavirus (also known as Covid-19), a highly contagious virus that has now reached the UK.

Cani-Sports Edinburgh as a club takes the health of its members very seriously. It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to cancel all organised club runs for the time being. It feels the responsible thing to do at this point in time, in an attempt to slow down the spread of the virus.

That is not to say that you can’t stop running with your dog on your own. In fact, government guidelines state that you can still go outside for essential exercise, just not in larger groups. While out exercising, you should maintain a 2m distance from other members of the public, and wash your hands thoroughly before you leave your home and on arrival back to your home.

As a club, we will be asking you to post pictures of your runs, so we can all stay in touch and have a ‘virtual club run’ in the absence of a real one! There are other ideas that we have to engage with our #canicrossers, so keep an eye on our facebook posts.

If you do feel unwell, or have a cough and/or fever, please don’t run at all. You should self isolate, and seek medical advice. Here is a link to NHS Inform.

There is no official stance on whether dogs can carry the virus, but if your dog seems unwell you shouldn’t be running with them. Here is a link which might be useful from PDSA.
